About CA Fire Foundation
The California Fire Foundation was created as a way to recognize the courage of firefighters, and the perseverance and sacrifice of fire victims. Formed in 1987 by California Professional Firefighters, the California Fire Foundation’s mandate includes an array of public education and victim assistance projects. Sponsored by the California Fire Foundation, the California Firefighters Memorial was designed and built in 2002 to honor firefighters killed in the line of duty. Every year, hundreds gather in Sacramento to honor and remember their loved ones. It is our mission to insure that our brave heroes are always remembered for their ultimate sacrifice. The Foundation is the official recipient organization for proceeds from the state license plate and tax check-off funds earmarked for the Memorial.
The California Fire Foundation organizes special funds to provide emergency assistance and support to families of fallen firefighters. Additionally, the Foundation publishes a Survivor Benefits Guide, a Funeral Guide and a regularly delivered Families’ Newsletter to keep families apprised of Foundation activities and services available to them.
The California Fire Foundation is involved in an array of victim assistance projects. When a disaster occurs, firefighters are the first responders. Because of their close contact with their communities, the Foundation works with 30,000 local firefighters throughout the state to identify unmet needs in their area and help them carry out programs to enhance services to their communities before, during and after the alarm.
Firefighters On Your Side is a public education program sponsored by the California Fire Foundation. Its goal is to reach every population and language group with messages about fire safety. Twice a year, the California Fire Foundation picks a new topic and/or language and produces public service announcements both in video and print format that our local firefighters bring to their community. A simple mission with a broad goal, Firefighters On Your Side is enhancing the safety in all parts of your community, every day.
