It is with a heavy heart that the Arcadia Firefighters Association, Local 3440 announces the passing of Fire Captain II Andy Troncale. After a valiant battle, Brother Troncale succumbed to the effects of job-related advanced stage colon cancer on January 23rd. He was 52.

- Fewer US Firefighter Deaths for Second Year Running
Eighty-seven on duty firefighters from 31 states lost their lives as the result of 83 fatal incidents that occurred in 2010. This is the second consecutive year of substantially fewer firefighter deaths in the United States, according to a report released by United States Fire Administration (USFA) today.

- SF Giants Score Big for the CA Fire Foundation
Over 2,000 firefighters packed AT&T Park in San Francisco for the San Francisco Giants' Firefighter Appreciation Night. And the Giants did not disappoint. Firefighters were honored with a pregame tailgate party. A fire boat show in McCovey Cove was accompanied by the National Anthem and the game opened with the beautiful sounds of the Pipes & Drums of California Professional Firefighters.

- NFPA: Line-of-Duty Deaths Lowest in 34 Years
The number of on-duty firefighter deaths is the lowest since 1977. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) today released its annual Firefighter Fatality Report at the NFPA Conference & Expo, which shows that a total of 72 on-duty firefighter deaths occurred in the United States in 2010. This is a sharp drop from the 105 on-duty deaths in 2008 and 82 in 2009 and it is the lowest annual total since the NFPA began conducting this annual study in 1977.
