August 2, 2017

Continuing in his family’s tradition of service, Brent Michael Witham began his career as a seasonal firefighter stationed near Idyllwild. Brent’s work ethic and dedication to the fire service caught the attention of a San Bernardino National Forest Captain and he was recruited to join the Idyllwild-based Vista Grande Hotshots crew, which he served on with pride. Fellow crew members regarded Brent for his focus while on a task and for the wit he displayed, which helped keep spirits high. Brent was killed by a falling tree while battling the Lolo Peak fire in Montana with his crew. He is survived by his father, his mother, his step-father and his sister.
