Chief Turner passed away on August 23, 2011 after a courageous battle with job-related cancer. A 37-year veteran of the fire service, Chief Turner dedicated his life to public safety and the brothers and sisters he served with over the past three decades. One of his many accomplishments during his tenure was the Make a Child Smile Program, which he founded in December 2002. Under Chief Turner’s leadership and vision, the program has helped thousands of underprivileged children and seniors during the holidays.
