Graf joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1973 as a firefighter at Station 26, where he quickly gained a reputation for his courage and even humor under extreme pressure. Those who worked with him knew him as a born firefighter with a gift of balancing the seriousness of his job with the necessity of enjoying laughs around the firehouse. He was promoted to Captain in 1986 and served at fire station 94 for fifteen years. Brother Graf not only left behind his wife Janice and daughter Heather, but a fire department family made better by his time among them
