Known a kind hearted and dependable person, Kent Hawthorne was always there for anyone in need. He became a part of the Ventury County Fire Department in 1972 when the present County Fire Chief was a cadet. He earned an Associate’s degree in Fire Science from Ventura College upon his discharge from the US Army. A dedicated father to his sons, he often took them camping, fishing, and volunteered at their schools as a teacher’s aide and a soccer and baseball coach. He suffered from a job-related heart attack at the age of 36.
