On May 31st, 2002, Robert Broussard suffered a heart attack in the line of duty. A United States Marine and Vietnam veteran, Broussard served his country with pride and compassion for other. Pursuing his passion for firefighting as a member of the Sycuan Fire Department, Broussard also performed duties as water tender driver, ambulance attendant, and engine operator. Those who worked with him describe Broussard as strong-willed, intelligent, and highly respected for his integrity. During the span of his career as a volunteer firefighter, Broussard was awarded the Medal of Merit and the Life Saving Medal by the Sycuan Fire Department.
