LODD Announcement: Fairfield Fire Department, Fire Engineer Christopher Bell
It is with profound sadness that the Fairfield Fire Department and the Solano Napa Professional Firefighters, Local 1186, announce the passing of one of their own.
Fire Engineer Christopher Bell courageously fought—and ultimately lost—his battle with occupational cancer on November 4, 2025, at the age of 41. His illness was directly linked to the hazards and exposures faced by firefighters in the performance of their duties.

Engineer Bell dedicated more than 21 years of faithful service to the City of Fairfield and its citizens. His journey with the Fairfield Fire Department began on May 29, 2003—coincidentally, his 18th birthday—when he was hired as a Reserve Firefighter. From that very first day, Chris displayed an uncommon level of passion and commitment to the fire service and to the community he loved. His dedication and skill earned him recognition as Reserve Firefighter of the Year in 2006, a testament to his character and work ethic even in the earliest days of his career.
He was hired as a full-time Firefighter in October 2007 and promoted to Fire Engineer in April 2013. Throughout his career, Chris exemplified professionalism, integrity, and a steady calm under pressure. He also served as a valued member of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team and the Apparatus Committee, where his technical expertise, insight, and reliability left a lasting mark on the department.
Chris’s inspiration to become a firefighter began as a young boy when he sat in the driver’s seat of a fire engine at Station 1 in Vallejo, sounding the siren and talking with the firefighters who welcomed him. That moment sparked a lifelong calling to serve others.
Engineer Bell retired on November 11, 2024, due to his occupational cancer, after more than two decades of honorable service. Beyond his career, Chris was known for his deep love of family and the outdoors. He cherished camping, skiing in Truckee’s winters, and traveling with those he loved most.
Chris is survived by his wife, Stefanie, and their three daughters, Rowan, Nova, and Lincoln. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and firefighter whose warmth, humor, and courage inspired everyone around him.
