The California Fire Foundation is pleased to announce the 2026 Southern, Central & Coastal California Fire Prevention & Preparedness Grant Opportunity for California-based fire departments, firefighter associations, nonprofit organizations, and tribal entities serving Southern California Edison’s service area.
Focus Areas
With nearly 3 million households—about one in ten—living at high or extreme wildfire risk, California faces mounting threats that disproportionately impact under-resourced communities. The 2024 Wildfire Mitigation & Resiliency Symposium and Needs Assessment Brief identified key gaps and strategies to improve resilience in Southern California Edison’s service area.
The Fall 2026 Southern, Central & Coastal California Grant Opportunity continues to build on these findings, funding projects that address urgent needs across community, landscape, and infrastructure resilience, while supporting equitable, innovative, and collaborative approaches to wildfire preparedness.
2026 Funding Focus Areas:
- Cross-Cutting Strategies – flexible funding models, equity-focused metrics, wildfire planning (CWPPs, RWMPs, RPPs).
- Built Environment Strategies – evacuation planning, road improvements, water access and storage, local adaptation planning.
- Landscape Strategies – agricultural buffers and greenbelts, prescribed fire and herbivory programs, green space fuel breaks, Indigenous stewardship.
- Community Strategies – Firewise USA and Fire Safe Council expansion, multilingual outreach, wildfire education and organizing, home hardening and retrofit micro-grants.
Awards typically range from $5,000 – $75,000 each, with requests outside of this range considered as-needed.
